Blockchain-destroyer. Part I

The blockchain is a disruptive technology, what is fashionable to call the term “disruptor”, but what it destroys? Participants in the cryptographic community is often defined as cryptoanalyst, but why are they anarchists? These questions deserve detailed answers.

Before the era of Nakamoto we had no alternative but to live in a classical state and to rely on its centralized mechanisms. Centralization follows from the very definition of the state. The population of the territory — the people — concludes with a conditional power of a social contract, which delegates to the “center” of their rights. In return, this center, which pursuant to the terms of the social contract and becomes the power of the state, provides people a certain amount of services. Security, development, freedom set may vary.

It is expected that before the conclusion of the social contract peoples are in a “natural state”, which in the view of some of the founding fathers of the theory of state-building was a primeval hell, and others the Golden age. The Pantheon of these fathers include Thomas Hobbes, John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. In the centuries since the writing of their policy papers, had put the whole of geological massifs with development and refinement of their ideas, but we are now important key definitions.

Some of their services the state has monopolized — as a result of the monopoly on violence, the right to judge and execute punishment has become something of a synonym for statehood. But by themselves, public monopolies are not required — cash turnover, for example, it appeared not at once. Early state allowed for the decentralized printing of coins. Loose Union policies, trade routes, among which was the Guild of merchants and professionals, no problem is calculated between a gold and silver bullion, could do without a single coin in circulation. But as soon as goods turnover has reached a certain critical mass, and the trade involved the General population, States were forced to take in hand the coinage, the control of trafficking and the fight against counterfeiters. Otherwise would have damaged the development of the state.

In this case, the monopoly is caused by requirement of a healthy economy, where the wide spread of monetary relations leading to relatively small profitability of individual transactions. This profit can destroy improvised gold bullion unknown value or rasped with impunity for the sake of Golden powder coins. That is a healthy economy in the traditional state required a state monopoly on everything related to money circulation. And another way to solve the problem technologically, did not exist.

This monopoly was also one of the strongest arguments in favor of why involved in the economic relations of man in the XXI century still need the state and its citizenship. To mint and print money, you need a mint. To regulate the issuance and circulation of the Central Bank and the Treasury. To monitor the uniformity of currency within the country, to suppress the activities of counterfeiters, to provide the operations with money — numerous law enforcement agencies. To collect all this money and then distribute it for the sake of the functioning of these agencies — the tax Inspectorate, the Ministry of Finance and the mechanisms of budgeting in government.

But here comes Nakamoto and brings with it the blockchain. And now a group of enthusiasts with modest resources, can do what previously required a costly giant anthill of the state bureaucracy.

By itself, the blockchain does not pose a risk to the state, at least, willing to experiment and to change. It adds technological capabilities that can be integrated in existing apparatus, making it more efficient, safe and binding. The problem is that after that become unnecessary army of civil servants who had engaged in support of the financial system. But the modern state has evolved into a complex social mechanisms with historically balanced parts, which, among other things, provide employment for the General population — from 15 to 25%. In socially oriented countries, it may be a third, and in those where there is still a planned economy, or hybrids based on it — and over 50% of the population.

Are threatened only employees of the listed agencies? Of course not. Cryptocurrency is something like the basic design, which is printed on the first page of the guide Assembly in a box with a complex constructor. It should interest the child, to show that 15 minutes of simple manipulations will give him a new toy. And then he will make a new one. But even the relatively simple concept of cryptocurrency, you can appreciate the fantastic potential of the blockchain. It is possible to collect much more complicated design!

Most state monopolies due to the lack of technology to implement a particular service within the framework of the social contract different, not in a centralized way. For registration of acts of civil status does not need special agencies, filing, archives, verification and census. It’s just the traditional mechanism by which historically ensured the registration of, operating, maintaining and protecting paper registers. Needless to say that it is also possible to replace bloccano?

And for the vast majority of state functions. Turn the head around, imagine that for a service that you render the state apparatus — with high probability it can replace the blockchain, and in a way that will save resources and time, it will be trouble free, unlike the official.

That falls into the exception? It is impossible to shift onto the shoulders of the gift Nakamoto? I see three groups of state functions that require human. To automate, will have to wait for the post-state in which these areas periproctic from scratch.

The first group relates to the government decision-making. It was intentional collegial and balanced branches of power in the days of the Greek city. In the second group — the moral and ethical issues within society and the courts, which they dismantled. The legal field has already been successfully automatiseret and try to transfer on the blockchain. But in society there still exists the image of the sacred person of a judge, empowered to decide the fate of people. Finally, the third group depends on the former system of relations between States. Until the last of them evolyutsioniruet enough we can’t get rid of human diplomacy, intelligence and the army.

The evolution of States in the era Nakamoto we will discuss in the next section.
