Brian Armstrong: Coinbase could become the Google in the world of cryptocurrency
In an interview with Fortune Brian Armstrong, the CEO and founder of one of the world’s largest exchanges Coinbase, told about how was created the company and affected the identity of the legendary Satoshi Nakamoto.
According to Armstrong, one of the reasons for the creation of Coinbase was a whitepaper written by Satoshi Nakamoto. Brian said:
“In 2010, I read the whitepaper – the description of bitcoin is authored by Satoshi Nakamoto. I remember that I thought it was the most important thing I’ve read in the last five years.”
Armstrong added that bitcoin whitepaper and the concept of universal world currency inspired him to create Coinbase. According to him, the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto remains for him a mystery, but the important thing is that bitcoin “exists in itself”, regardless of who is the author of the whitepaper.
The head of Coinbase believes that people who created bitcoin, has sought to give mankind an instrument of control over money, to pave the way to efficient economy and to increase the degree of freedom. According to Bryan, Coinbase is trying to help people around the world to access this technology.
Armstrong also touched on the topic of the Internet revolution of the last decades. In his opinion, the purpose of Web 1.0 was to place information in the network, the mission of Web 2.0 was to provide interaction on the Internet, and the meaning of Web 3.0 is to give people the opportunity for the transmission of values in the network. The current stage of cryptocurrency development reminds him of the initial stage of the existence of the Internet. He noticed that Coinbase could become the “Google of cryptocoins”..
“…in the sense that it is a new way to create applications on Web 3.0, and we can become the leading company in this respect.”
For his part, Vice— President of corporate and business development, Coinbase Emily Choi said that the mission of the exchange is to “create an open financial system for the world.” According to her, now in the cryptocurrency sphere there has been some stagnation, and Coinbase has to fight for survival. The reason for this is that the exchange “lays the Foundation”. Emily says:
“We make the large investment trying to build a solid and great Foundation. Much indicates that the cryptocurrency trend will be sustainable”.
