Created a wireless system for charging electric vehicles at 120 kW with 97% efficiency

Engineers Ochridski laboratory demonstrated the wireless charging system of electric vehicles at 120 kW, which thanks to the new design and the device is added with silicon carbide have achieved 97% efficiency of energy transfer.

New technology has improved the capacity of energy-flow six times compared to their past development. In parallel, they were able to achieve performance comparable to traditional chargers. The tests were conducted with an air gap of 15 cm between the magnetic coils and the power supply system of the battery.

In the process, the system is not heated and completely safe, which reduces charge loss to a minimum. The device takes energy from the network and converts it into high frequency alternating electric current, generating a magnetic field which is able to transfer power through a significant air gap. Immediately after power is getting to the battery, it becomes direct current and is accumulated.

The researchers aim to increase the capacity of the device 350 kW and improve the technology of wireless charging of electric vehicles while driving. Dynamic power system will automatically recharge the vehicle through the lining installed under the road. However, this requires increasing the capacity of such systems.
