For half a year, hackers stole $882 million with cryptocurrency exchanges


The criminals broke 14 trading floors, five of which attacked members of the North Korean hacker group Lazarus

From the beginning of 2017, the hackers stole $882 million with 14 of cryptocurrency exchanges, experts specializing in cyber security company Group-IB. They believe that soon the criminals can once again successfully attack the trading platform, and in 2019 the number of burglaries will only increase.

“At the beginning of 2018 the attention of hackers to cryptocurrency exchanges have increased and we expect such bands as Silence, MoneyTaker and Cobalt, can carry out several successful hacks,” reads the company’s report.

Experts noted that five exchanges (Yapizon, Coinis, YouBit, Bithumb and Coincheck) hacked North Korean members of the hacker group Lazarus. Most often to attack the platform to trade digital money and the ICO startups criminals use fake resumes that are infected with a virus.

In 2017, fraudsters were able to seize 10% of all investments attracted into projects for the initial placement of tokens. According to analysts, the greatest damage comes from the organizers of the ICO, as 80% of start-UPS did not fulfill obligations to investors and stole their money.
