For 2017 and the first 9 months of 2018 hacked 14 of cryptocurrency exchanges and caused damage to the $882 million it was declared by the experts specializing in cyber security company Group-IB.
Five of the 14 trading platforms (Yapizon, Coinis, YouBit, Bithumb, Coincheck) attacked North Korean hackers from the group Lazarus.
The experts noted that most attacks on the crypto currency exchange and ICO projects, the attackers use spear phishing. For example, sending fake resumes with the infected document.
In the case of the five cryptomeria hacked after phishing the Lazarus team conducted exploration of the local network. Hackers looking for servers on which the work was carried out with private money sites.
“In the beginning of 2018 the attention of hackers to cryptomeria only increased, so we expect that groups such as Silence, MoneyTaker and Cobalt, can spend a few successful break-ins”, — said the experts of Group-IB.
The report also notes that in 2017 the cyber fraudsters took possession of 10% of all involved during the ICO investment. Experts Group-IB said that one unnamed large group steals $1 million investment in a month. However, analysts argue that the greatest damage inflicted organizers ICO — 80% of the projects did not fulfill obligations to investors and disappeared after collecting funds.

Group-IB said that in 2019 the crypto currency exchange will become a new target for the more “aggressive hacker groups”, attacking banks, and the number of targeted attacks on courts will only increase.
