Microsoft sunk a data center to save on cooling

Microsoft in order to save on cooling of the data center with 864 server and 27.6 petabytes of memory, placed it under water, and have recently installed a video surveillance system.

The equipment is placed in the Scottish sea, connected to the Internet by underwater cable. The power complex will receive from renewable energy in Orkney. After two months of work, it was decided to install cameras to monitor the level of corrosion and destruction of the body and fish.

Within five years plans to further expand the capacity of the complex. Microsoft has for many years been experimenting with the placement of facilities in the water column.
