Robot porter from Alibaba
Alibaba, the Chinese e-Commerce giant, has developed a high-tech robot-receptionist Space Egg, which in October will start to work in a hotel in Hangzhou.
Presented at the computer conference, the robot has a curved body, hiding the wheels, and navigation uses camera and laser. Its height is slightly less than one meter and a top speed of just 1 m/s. unlike other models of robotic assistants performing the simplest of tasks, Space Egg differs much more high functionality.
It is equipped with artificial intelligence system Tmall Genie, operating similarly to Alexa. The AI is also integrated into the digital devices of the hotel, allowing guests to use your voice to order, which is then delivered to Space Egg. The robot-receptionist communicates with the integrated speakers.
Representatives of Alibaba say they are now working on reducing the processing time of the request and the response of the robot. The company also plans to release similar assistants for hospitals, restaurants and offices. Until automated systems are not very common in the hotel business, but the Space Egg developers say their product will help to quickly and efficiently serve even the most demanding customers.
Robotics is gradually penetrating in all industry. Researchers at Boston University presented the prototype of elastic-waist pants with built-in artificial muscles that are Contracting, helping the disabled to move and to use their own tissue.
