Team Airalab tested Autonomous sensor platforms that collect data about the degree of contamination of the water. The results of the study were presented at the summer school “Ribonomic 2018” was held in Tolyatti from 20 to 26 August.
As told by the engineer-ecologist of the project Aziz Oripov., measurements of the surface layer water of the Volga, at a depth of two meters, were made at the end of July at the Italian beach Togliatti. The drone was equipped with sensors measuring the content of nitrogen-containing substances (NO3-, NO2-, NH4+), dissolved oxygen, turbidity and water temperature.
“The most reliable information we have received on hydrogen characteristics and content of dissolved oxygen in the water. The studied period has a very low pH, although it is acceptable for humans and fish is from 6.5 to 8.5 pH. An acidic environment is fraught for human skin irritation, and fish creates unfavorable conditions for survival. Dissolved oxygen at a rate of from 5 to 14 mg/liter in river water averaged 0.25 mg/liter, and this suggests that the water contains a large amount of gray-green and brown algae, which absorb it”, — said Aziz Oripov..
She added that the algae not only distinguish 300 species of substances, most of which are poisonous, but also reduce the penetration of sunlight to the bottom of the reservoir, which entails a lack of oxygen and causes the death of plants and fish, as well as the active formation of hydrogen sulfide, methane, and greenhouse gases.
“In addition, there is a trend increase in the number of antibiotics in water, which at elevated concentrations in water can change the DNA of a fish and result in different mutation,” she said.
According to the Executive Director Airalab Rus Ivan Petrov, water pollution in the Volga basin due to the overabundance of industrial, transport, municipal and agricultural drains. In General, the environmental load on the Volga and its surrounding area exceeded eight times.
“Smart city is not possible without relevant and immediate information. The key problem is that the sensors in all known cases are purchased and controlled by the municipalities. Airalab formulated the case in a compact self-managed aquatic drone that are not comparable to cheaper huge ships.
